Buying software or hardware in the tuning industry can be one of the hardest and most costly decisions you can make for your business. Whether you are a seasoned tuner or just starting out there is a myriad of products and decisions to make. Some are the questions are the same even if you already have equipment or not. How much money do I have to buy my tools with? You can look at all of the latest, greatest and most expensive tools but if the budget won't stretch that far there is little point. Be realistic with your budget and when possible buy more than one tool. No tool does everything and some tools are better at something's than others. Also another tool may recover a situation where one tool has got into trouble. Do I need a master or slave tool? This comes down to how you are going to get modified files. If you are just starting out and have no experience in modifying ECU files you might be best in finding a friendly tuning company who will supply you with files. If you are lucky they might supply you with open files in which case you can use a Master tool and possibly reuse some of the files in the future more likely they will want you to have a Slave tool.
